By Cody 鈥楴eramaar鈥?HargreavesRunes of Magic, arguably one of the better free to play MMORPGs on the market today, has recently received its second major content update, Chapter 2: The Elven Prophecy; and in a fashion not unlike the title that inspired it鈥檚 creation (World of Warcraft) players can expect to find more dungeons, more races, more classes,
and a higher level cap to keep them busy in the many months to come.
Runes of Magic - Chapter II The Elven Prophecy Trailer
The biggest addition included with the release of Chapter 2 is the second playable race, The Elves, bringing with it a new story arc, two new playable classes鈥攖he Warden (an all-new
class featuring a pet system) and Druid (a substitute class for the Human Priest)鈥攁nd a new starting zone鈥擳he Elven Island鈥攖hat looks as though it were inspired by a Tolkien novel. Bridges connect to houses hidden amongst the trees, and magic oozes from every corner of the Academy. It鈥檚 definitely pretty and it鈥檚 definitely something worth checking
out for yourself as soon as you get the chance.
Moving on from the starting areas, Chapter 2 comes with plenty of new content for the higher level players too; specifically, those who have already reached the previous level cap of 50 and are looking to expand further. In Chapter 2, the level cap has been raised to 55, and three new regions have been added to help players reach their new goal. The new regions鈥擳he Weeping Coast, Savage Lands and Aotuila Volcano鈥攈ave all been designed specifically for players between levels 50 and 55, and each have their own specific flavour, too. While in The Weeping Coast players will be asked to unravel the
mysteries that lay behind the Giant Gate; those questing in the Savage Lands will be forced to deal with the dreaded Naga; and too those in the Aotuila Volcano can expect a more fiery experience. Surely that much is expected from a P2P MMO, but to see it in the free-to-play world is a truly refreshing experience.
Of course, in an MMORPG, questing is only half the battle. It is in the instanced dungeons that the true players will find themselves the real challenge, and in Chapter 2, there鈥檚 plenty of challenge to be had. Three new instanced dungeons have been added鈥擳he Origin (designed for 6 players at level 55), the Hall of Survivors (12 players at level 55), and the Heart of the Ocean (6 players at level 52)鈥攁longside two new public boss encounters鈥擵aranas Nightmare (150 players) and the Cave of the Water Dragon (normal boss encounter)鈥攖hat are sure to keep players busy for a long time to come.
Then, to proverbially put the 鈥榠cing on the cake鈥? Chapter
2 offers players a new musical score, new player, enemy and environment animations, a new mini-game鈥攖he Course of Terror鈥? new cross-server PvP, and a new PvP Battle Scenario named Visdun Fortress that has been specifically designed as a tower defence game; offering players a new take on battle strategy and tactics as they attempt to fight each
other off, while protecting their fortress from a wave of oncoming enemy advances.
Truly, Chapter 2: The Elven Prophecy is an expansion that lives up to the amazing standards of Runes of Magic, offering players an amazing array of entertainment, at no cost at all!
